City Cafe – 18th March 2011

Restaurant Address: Mint Hotel Bristol, Temple Way, Bristol, BS1 6BF

General Info: This restaurant serves award-winning (awarded two AA rosettes in 2009/2010) modern European cuisine created by the head chef Matt Lord.

Decor (6/10) – Stylish, art deco as continuing with the theme of the Mint Hotel

Atmosphere (6/10) – lit up nicely, with tall windows overlooking the park made the feel modern and comfortable

Food (8/10) – Our starter consisted of Duck Ballotine with rhubarb chutney and gingerbread, what seemed to be a odd combination come together really well, the gingerbread was soft and moist and could be used as an alternative to toast with Pate. Our main was crisp Belly of Pork with Lentils and Morteaux sausage, finished with granny smith and celeriac puree. The pork was amazing, the crackling on the surface was just right to eat, like eating a crisp, the meat also melted together with the fat.  We agreed this was the best pork we have both ever had.

Service (7/10) – very good, friendly and efficient but not rushed

Value for money (8/10) – The meal cost us just £30, but we did have a discount of 50%. Altogether, the restaurant produces a high standard of preparation and presentation, and is well worth the visit

Overall 35/50 = 70%
