Day 2: Walk around Museum Island

The island that nestles in the tributaries of the Spree River is the sport were Berlin first settlements occurred at the beginning of the 13th Century. Today the island houses an extraordinary collection of galleries as well as the huge Berliner Cathedral.  

Area highlights –

Berliner Dom – Berlins main Cathedral was built from 1747 and based on a Barque design. The central copper dome is some 98 m high. Following WW II damage the cathedral has been restored but in a simpler form.





Altes Museum – house the royal collection and Greek and Roman artefacts, plus an ancient Egyptian collection.


Alte Nationalgalerie – Old National Gallery, the building is situated on a high platform reached via a double staircase.


Pergamon-museum – One of the most famous collections of antiquities in Europe


Bodemuseum – Found in wedge shaped end of the island, holds a range of collections including a coin and sculpture collection, and a range of art.
